Pape Arce - “The Long Walk To Forever”
Cat. No.: NTQ016 -
Release date: Oct 22, 2021
Format: digitally

One step at a time, in this long walk to forever. Mexican/Colombian sound artist Pape Arce explores themes of immigrant identity, kindness and community as revolutionary forms of healing on his debut album “The Long Walk To Forever” out on the Copenhagen based imprint No Technique October 22nd.

Pape focuses on the intimacy of sounds; what stories can a simple repeating patterns tell us about ourselves? About where we come from, and the infinite possibilities of where we will go?
His music is based on short melodic passages, plus free improvisations, frequently done alongside many different guest musicians.

The album is a mix of heartfelt field recordings, processed samples and digital instruments, drenched in effects to transport the listener to the otherworldly nature - that is the inside of our hearts. Shifting between calming chord progressions, and dense layers of instrumentation.

During the summer of 2020, Pape began experimenting by writing short ambient passages of music. He then presented those passages to the vocal group Naema, who improvised freely during a recording session.
This became the backbone of his debut album, “The Long Walk To Forever”, which is set to release October 22nd, on the Copenhagen imprint No Technique.

Pape Arce was born in Mexico to a Colombian family - he was traveling the world from a very young age. As a result, he grew up in the middle of conflicting cultures and languages, becoming keenly aware of the differences/similarities that bind us together.

At the age of 18, Pape moved to Copenhagen to study a Tonemeister degree at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, to support his older sister who just recently had become a mother. His first years of early adulthood taught him the importance of community; supporting and caring for one another to create a better understanding of ourselves, and the world around us.

Throughout his time at the classical conservatory, Pape worked with different ensembles - bands and composers, enriching his musical vocabulary.

Serving as a core of this album, is the presence in us.
Alternating between the past and the future, we land in the present; the now.

It's about the roads that we take, the people we meet, the connections we make. The experiences that change us, and the integrity of our choices.
But mainly, it’s a work of love - being devoted to each day, every other and ourselves.

One step at a time, in this long walk to forever.
